An Orifice Flange is a specialized component used to measure fluid flow in a piping system. When an Orifice Plate is installed, it creates a restriction that causes a differential pressure. This pressure drop is then used to calculate the flow rate of liquids, steam, or gases.

Orifice Flange assemblies comply with ASME B16.36 standards and are available in all ASTM material grades. These flanges come with either:

• Raised Face (RF)
• Ring Type Joint (RTJ)

They are available in the following pressure classes:

• 2500#

Orifice Unions & Installation Guidelines

An Orifice Flange Assembly—also known as an Orifice Union—includes:

• A pair of flanges
• Bolts, nuts, and gaskets
• Jack screws for easy installation and removal of the Orifice Plate
• Pressure tap plugs

Installation Best Practices

To ensure accurate flow measurement, Orifice Flanges must be installed in a straight pipeline section to minimize turbulence. According to the American Gas Association (AGA):

• Maintain 10 pipe diameters of straight run upstream of the Orifice Plate.
• Maintain 5 pipe diameters of straight run downstream for optimal performance.
